Background Investigations offers best practices approach to delivering criminal record reports. We research the criminal history of job applicants on a county, state, and nationwide basis. To accomplish this, we go directly to the court docket to determine if a criminal conviction record exists for misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, and felonies. It is a requirement of state and federal law for employers to obtain a signed release from employment applicants prior to conducting a background check. At this time the employer can request the employment applicant complete a thorough pre-employment form listing his or her current and prior counties of residence within the past seven years. Our company checks for conviction history in the counties the applicant discloses and where we determine the applicant has lived for the past seven years. In most circumstances, the response turnaround on criminal history checks is 24 to 72 hours, excluding weekends and holidays

Our Story
Background Investigations was started in 1995 by Kenneth R. Pinkerton. In 1995 while working in the State of Washington as a Parole and Probation Fugitive Officer it was Ken’s job to investigate, locate, and apprehend fugitives. While on the job it was determined fugitives were going out on fishing boats to Alaska. The US Coast Guard was contacted and the fugitives were taken off fishing boats in Puget Sound and booked into the County jails. One of the seafood companies called and asked why these individuals were being taken off the boats and arrested by the US Coast Guard. The fishing company was told the recently hired applicants had fugitive warrants for violent crimes and these individuals were a danger to the community and other employees on the boat. The fishing company stated it cost a lot of money to outfit new hires and process them for the trip to Alaska. They indicated they were going to call the company that conducted the criminal background investigations on these individuals and advise them their services were no longer needed. That is how Background Investigations was founded. We have done approximately sixty background investigations per day since 1996. At the end of 2017, Background Investigations was bought by 6 and 9 Inc. and Mr. Pinkerton was asked to stay on as an employee. Mr. Pinkerton’s passion for precise and accurate searches and information sharing is evident within the office.
